Mandated Volunteer Training

Turner Woods Elementary School encourages parents, grandparents, guardians, and caregivers to participate in your child’s education and school activities.  As established by Georgia law, any parent, guardian, or caregiver who volunteers in any capacity within the school system must participate in a training session for mandatory reporting prior to working with students. To keep in compliance with State Law and with best practices, we require that all persons interested in volunteering at Turner Woods Elementary School complete a volunteer training session.   Examples of volunteering include, but are not limited to, individuals who attend school field trips, act as Room Parents, volunteer with PTO, visit or assist in classrooms (including socials), serve as mentors, or help with extra-curricular activities.

The mandatory volunteer training will be held throughout the school year at various times. If a parent, guardian or caregiver is unable to attend the training at Turner Woods Elementary School, he /she may attend a training at any school in Jones County.  Applicants should be prepared to spend about 15-20 minutes for the training and application process. 

Volunteer Training MUST be completed PRIOR to scheduled activity or event.

Right to Know Professional Qualifications of Teachers and Paraprofessionals

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

In compliance with the requirements of the Every Students Succeeds Act, Turner Woods Elementary School would like to inform you that you may request information about the professional qualifications of your student’s teacher(s) and/or paraprofessional(s). The following information may be requested:

v  Whether the student’s teacher –

·         has met State qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction;

·         is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived; and

·         is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher.

v  Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
